Rediscovery of the underground historic monument Aqueduct Museum of Hsinchu City was open and became a good place for popular science education

After four years’ efforts, “Aqueduct Museum of Hsinchu City,” the first completed restoring construction of historic spot after Mayor Lin Chih-chien assumed office, was open. Aqueduct of Hsinchu City was completed in 1929, and it was an important milestone for modernization of the city's use of water. Mayor Lin Chih-chien insisted that the historic spot must be restored as it was and granted with new life. The museum introduced water resources and environment in Hsinchu City and the story of the building. There were also outdoor rock-climbing slide and water pool. It was a good place for parent-children popular science education. The museum was suitable for visitors of all ages. Citizens were invited to visit Aqueduct Museum of Hsinchu City beside Hsinchu City Culture and Creativity Hall during vacations for witnessing the water stories of Hsinchu City.
 
Hsinchu City’s industrial and commercial circles got prosperous during the age of Japanese reign, so the planning of street and waterway construction began in Hsinchu City. The aqueduct was completed and working in 1929, and it was an important milestone for modernization of the city’s use of water. Six water collecting wells were buried along Toucian River’s Long’en Canal. Water was pumped to Eighteen Peaks Mountain for purification such as sediment and filtration. Aqueduct of Hsinchu City witnessed the water resource history of Hsinchu City. The value of the cultural assets was high, and the repaired building was also a good site for historic education.
 
Hsinchu City was a city focusing on cultural development. There were totally 38 historic spots and 25 historic buildings. The city kept trying hard to repair and reuse historic spots and buildings. When the historic spots were restored, their surrounding area could also become a high-quality public area. Restoration of the aqueduct combined the historic spot and park. The parent-children leisure space integrating nature and humanity made people appreciate beautiful historic spot and have fun at the same time, and they may understand the history of the city and cherish the precious cultural assets.
