Hsinchu City Fire Bureau (HCCFB) held "Firefighter Freshmen Apprenticeship Ceremony" yesterday (7) in order to find professional instructors for 42 firefighter freshmen. Apart from appreciating firefighters for their hard works, Hsinchu City Mayor Lin Chih-chien encouraged the new firefighters to learn from the instructors in order to accomplish future rescue missions. 42 new firefighters joined the fire bureau between the end of last year and the beginning of this year; the number of firefighters also reached the highest number in recent years. Hsinchu City Government will continue to purchase different types of rescue equipment and becomes the greatest backup for firefighters.

Mayor Lin stated that after he was elected, the city government invested over $9.2 million dollars to strengthen earthquake resilience of HCCFB's buildings and purchase aerial ladder fire trucks, fume exhauster trucks, fire trucks, and other fire equipment in order to enhance firefighters' safety during rescue mission. The city government applied $6.9 million dollar funds from the central government, and all the constructions of strengthening earthquake resilience of HCCFB's buildings are expected to be done before 2019.

Mayor Lin expressed his appreciation and respect to firefighters. Firefighters protect the public's life and property. He pointed out that "the exit for the public is the relief entrance for firefighters." Mayor Lin reminded firefighters to be careful for their own safeties.

Hsinchu City Deputy Mayor Shen Huihong represented Mayor Lin and the instructor to put on the fire helmets for the firefighter freshmen. She stated that firefighters cannot afford to waste a single second in rescue mission. The new firefighters may be nervous while facing emergency situations. Therefore, the guidance from senior firefighters and instructors is important for them.

Director-general of HCCFB Li Shigong stated that the purpose of the firefighting apprenticeship is to inherited senior firefighters' experience to new firefighters. He believed that new firefighters would be able to safely accomplish all the missions through senior firefighters' guidance.
