Ten little racewalkers from Hsinchu City represented Taiwan to participate in the 2018 Tokyo New Year's Race Walk. They overcame the foreign environment and achieved great accomplishments among over 500 racewalkers. Lai Yuxi, a little racewalker from Zaixi Elementary School (ZXES), joined the junior grade race walk group and acquired the 5th place. The "Race Walk Queen" Wu Weiqiao obtained the 7th place with the record of 24:17 in senior grade female group. Hsinchu City Mayor Lin Chih-chien approves Hsinchu racewalkers' effort and hopes they will do better in future competitions.

Tokyo New Year's Race Walk is a high level competition in athletics. The main route of the competition this time was Meijijingu Gaien and the surrounding lane of Meiji Memorial Picture Gallery (about 1.35 km). This route was also the route of Olympic Men's 20 km Race Walk. Three racewalkers from Chengde Senior High School (CDSH) had a good performance in senior grade male 10 km race walk group. Xu Jiawei acquired the 20th place with 46:47; Fang Wenkai acquired the 31st place with 47:40; Chen Hongen acquired the 71st place with 54:06.

In senior grade female 5 km race walk, the "Race Walk Queen" Wu Weiqiao (National Hsinchu Commercial Vocational High School) acquired the 7th place with 24:17; Wu Yuxin (CDSH) acquired the 11th place with 25:13; Luo Yunting (CDSH) acquired the 27th place with 27:14. In junior grade male 3 km race walk, Peng Junyang (Sanmin Junior High School) acquired the 2nd place with 14:44. In junior grade female 3 km race walk, Huang Zhiyi (Guanghua Junior High School), Su Yichun (Guanghua Junior High School), and Lai Yuxi (ZXES) acquired the 2nd place, the 4th place, and the 5th place with 15:02, 16:13, and 16:20 respectively.

Wu Weiqiao took the gold medal in female 5,000 m race walk in Asian Youth Athletics Championships 2017, and she became the first racewalker in Taiwan who took the gold medal in an international female race walk. Although she did not break her best record (24:15.92) this time, she was proud of representing Taiwan and Hsinchu City to participate in the 2018 Tokyo New Year's Race Walk.

Mayor Lin states that Hsinchu City Government will keep supporting race walk. There were 24 racewalkers from 5 different cities and counties, and 10 of them were from Hsinchu City. The City Government will provide the best training environment to the racewalkers and the coaches; hoping to train more outstanding racewalkers.
