The Hsinchu City Government and Kuang Shuo Energy have invested NTD 60 million to build the Fishing Port Solar Photovoltaic Power System, which was officially put into operation on January 4th. Hsinchu Mayor Lin Chih-Chien stated that this is the first solar photovoltaic power system in Hsinchu City that combines fishery development and green power generation. It is also the City’s second-largest photovoltaic system, only smaller than the one in Sea Viewing Park. Located by the sea, it has a wind-resistant, salt-resistant, and earthquake-resistant structure. With a total area of 6,000 square meters and a 1.2MW installation, the average annual power generation can reach 1.23 million kWh. It is estimated that it can bring NTD 500,000 to 600,000 of electricity sales rebate to the revenue of the City.
Deputy Mayor Shen Hui-Hong said that for the sake of the next generation, we should leave a beautiful planet to our children and start to implement environmental-friendly energy policies. In line with the national green energy development direction policy, the City Government actively promotes the addition of solar photovoltaic power systems to public real estate to achieve the goal of green energy construction and energy transformation. Including the Haishan Fishing Port solar photovoltaic power system, there are currently 40 public housing sites in Hsinchu City that have solar photovoltaic power systems installed, including 29 municipal state-owned high schools and elementary schools and 11 public buildings. The total installed capacity is 7.662 MW. The total power generation amount last year is 9.73 million kWh. The carbon reduction is about 4,885 tons, which equals about 12.6 Daan Forest Park or 407,000 trees.
Solar photovoltaic power system manufacturer Kuang Shuo Energy Co., Ltd. stated that compared to inland, solar panel equipment by the sea has more requirements for wind resistance and salt resistance. In response to this fish-electricity symbiosis, the solar panel has been lifted from the ground by 4.5 kilometers. The space beneath will be planned as a storage and replenishment space for fishermen’s gear. It will also be used as a parking lot. The shaded space not only extends the life of the stacked fishing gear but also reduces the temperature for the parked vehicles. The system is beneficial for both fishery and green energy generation.
Director of Department of Economic Development Chang Li-Ker pointed out that there are currently 21 solar photovoltaic power system sites under construction. It is expected that another 5MW solar photovoltaic power system will be added this year. After all sites are completed, the total annual power generation of the solar photovoltaic system in Hsinchu City will reach 14.15 million kWh, with a carbon reduction of about 7,104 tons. The result equals nearly 18.3 Daan Forest Park's carbon reduction. In addition, these sites not only benefit energy saving and carbon reduction but also bring rental income to the City. The relevant rental income reached NTD 8.66 million last year, which can be used for energy education, energy conservation improvement, and repair of public properties.
