The archery training base for national athletes will be upgraded again, with the first professional archery hall that meets international standards being available in Hsinchu City. Mayor Lin Chih-Chien announced that combined with subsidies from the Sports Administration, the city government has invested a total of 70 million NTD in constructing an archery hall of 1,235 square meters at Fuli Junior High School. As Mayor Lin states, archery is a significant indicator sport in the city, and there are many famous archers from Hsinchu. To train potential archery athletes and establish a solid sports foundation, the city government has perfected a four-level training system starting beginning from elementary and continuing all the way until university. In addition to complying with international competition standards, gold-medal coaches Ni Da-Chih and former Olympic athlete now sports coach Lin Shih-Jia both train current Olympic athletes at the archery hall. Hsinchu City has now become the most complete national athlete training base in northern Taiwan.
Mayor Lin Chih-Chien mentioned that as archery is Hsinchu City’s key sport, the city government established a complete four-level training program and collaborated with various schools–from Hsiangshan Primary School, to Fuli and Sanmin Junior High, to Hsiang Shan High School and Hsinchu Commercial and Vocational High School, to National Tsing Hua University–investing over 4.5 million NTD and constructing primary training stations in 7 schools. Ni Da-Chih, current coach of the Chinese Taipei archery team, and Lin Shi-Jia, Olympic women’s archery bronze medalist, were also recruited as teacher and touring coach respectively. The uninterrupted and solid training courses have also attracted Japanese student Mori Mimi to travel to Taiwan to learn and practice archery.
According to Mayor Lin Chih-Chien, in addition to quality training courses, athletes also need suitable equipment. As the number of athletes training at Fuli Junior High increases year by year, the semi-outdoor and outdoors training venues are no longer sufficient. The Hsinchu City Government has therefore sought for funding from the Sports Administration to build “Hsinchu’s largest professional grade” archery hall in accordance with international competition specifications, and its construction is expected to be complete by the end of 2022.
“From 0 to 1, then to 99.” Gold medal coach Ni Da-Chih explains that the archery project in Hsinchu City was made quite early on. The Fuli Junior High Archery Team already has a history of 16 years, starting from a small tatami, then gradually establishing an official archery team, constructing an on-campus archery range, and now the to-be-completed archery hall.
Architect Hu Jing-Yuan mentioned that archery range roof design incorporates the shape of the bow and wind. Taking inspiration from the action of drawing a bow, the roof is structured into a continuous arc, and the semi-open design allows the architecture to fit in well into the campus space.
