This annual Taiwan Design Expo will be held in Hsinchu City for the first time this year. Taking the stage on October 1 and running until October 11, it will be the largest exhibition following post-epidemic opening up. Hsinchu City Government and the Ministry of Economic Affairs have planned a large exhibition area in the old city area of Hsinchu City. On July 31, Minister of Economic Affairs Wang Mei-Hua and Hsinchu City Mayor Lin Chih-Chien launched the contract signing ceremony together and announced the Expo theme “Check in Hsinchu.” Mayor Lin also announced that a five-day Design Power, Please Lend a Hand round-island tour will begin next week, will take in seven cities and counties and will involve visits to county/city heads. The tour will seek to learn from the design power of various industries in Taiwan. The round-island tour bus was also displayed for the first time.

Mayor Lin Chih-Chien said Taiwan Design Expo 2020 will change the static exhibition model of the past and will feature a two-kilometer design corridor in Hsinchu’s old city area; participants will include top designers, local companies and traditional industry rice noodles and pork balls. Everyone will be shown how introducing design power can make technology more user-friendly and give products more design feel. In the post-COVID-19 era, everyone is invited to visit Hsinchu to see how architects have transformed the city.

Minister of Economic Affairs Wag Mei-Hua said that design can raise the quality of life and create more value. Taiwan Design Expo 2020 will link the old city areas and be combined with technology clusters, the aim being to combine the technology power of the city’s science park and the design expo to bring into play more influence.

The Department of Economic Development said the theme of the Taiwan Design Expo 2020 is Check in Hsinchu. From the aspects of digital technology, city design, urban innovative living industry and others, with design as the tool, the memory data of the old city area will engage in dialogue with innovative thoughts and guide the viewer to Check in Hsinchu! The Expo’s main exhibition area will be Hsinchu Park, building a landscape-type exhibition area; it will extend, following a two-kilometer walking path, to Hsinchu Bus Station and the old city area, creating a unique exhibition that makes the entire city an exhibition area. It will highlight the characteristics of Hsinchu’s technology industry and historic site culture while also showing the results of the active introduction of design into city governance in recent years.
The Expo will run from October 1 to 11, spanning the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day. Everyone is invited to Check in Hsinchu to have a whole-new experience of this city and see the design aesthetics of this happy city.
