Hsinchu City Zoo, officially “Reborn” on December 28, President Tsai Ing-wen attended the opening ceremony, she acknowledged the effort of the teamwork, Mayor Lin Chih-Chien stated that in the last 5 years, the government and the zoo members have conquered many obstacles to build an animal friendly, historical zoo which promotes life-education.
President Tsai Ing-wen visited the zoo park accompanied with Mayor Lin Chih-Chien and Legislator Ker Chien-ming on December 28, Mayor guided the tour of tall-grass savanna forest area, admired the beast area and the cute animal area from a distant place.
President Tsai Ing-wen said “the Hsinchu City Zoo will be a memorable place for all Taiwan people and their children.” She acknowledged the design work, which makes resident animal more comfortable, preserves the valuable trees and allows citizens to get closer to the animals. Citizens are excited to welcome the Hippo Lele and other resident animals.
Mayor Lin Chih-Chien recalled the days he just inaugurated, it was a “endless hardworking” time, problems waiting to be solved every day. Giving up was never an option, bearing the commitment to the citizens and the passion for the hometown, Mayor worked in his endeavor, however the pressure troubled his sleep condition, he was grinding teeth in sleep, his wife complained that the grinding teeth sound was even louder than the snore.
“If am not in the zoo, then I am on the way to the zoo.” This represents exact how Mayor Lin Chih-Chien and his team worked. During that time, Major conducted the weekly construction conference, made tour of inspection on site day and night.
Mayor Lin Chih-Chien also indicated that the newly reformed Hsinchu City Zoo aims to be animal friendly, rich in history, promote life education as the three core values. To be animal friendly, the Hsinchu City Zoo built a case-less, real-to-natural-habitats environments, the space for the animal is 1.5 times bigger than usual. In preserving memories, the Hsinchu City Government kept the old trees and the historical buildings such as the Elephant Gate, so that when the citizens enter the zoo, they feel familiar and surprised. “Promoting the life education is an important mission to the Hsinchu City Zoo” said the Mayor Lin Chih-Chien.
