Hsinchu City Mayor Lin Chih-chien has been dedicating on pushing "Road Smoothing Project." Through rising the project budget, adjusting self-governance articles, and establishing an official Road Smoothing website, Hsinchu City Government (HCCG) have accumulatively improved road condition for 2 million square meters of road in the past 3.5 years. Mayor Lin emphasizes that he will continue to improve road quality, so citizens can travel safely and smoothly.
HCCG have invested $1.029 billion NTD in "Road Smoothing Project" and improved the total length of 159,429 meters of road which covered over 2 million square meters of area. Also, the number of manhole is reduced to around 6,000, and the project will continue to gradually improve the road quality in Hsinchu City.
Mayor Lin emphasized that in order to maintain the road condition, HCCG modified the self-governance articles to restrict the 5 main pipeline businesses from digging roads without negotiation, and set up the Road Smoothing website as an information bridge where citizens can help on supervising road construction quality and progress.
In addition, in order to reduce the traffic impact due to road construction, HCCG coordinated with Taiwan Water Corporation and Taiwan Power Company to come up with a unique technique "Hydro Co-construction." Hydro Co-construction integrates water and electricity lines and uses culvert to proceed construction underground to avoid digging repeatedly on road surface which leads to uneven pavement and traffic issue.
