Earthquake Shakes Hualien; Hsinchu City Fire Bureau Launches Rescue Mission in the Early Morning

Hsinchu City Fire Bureau (HCCFB) had been receiving earthquake reports from Central Weather Bureau since Feb. 6, 23:50. Richter magnitude reached 7 in Hualien area and caused many buildings to collapse and residents to trap in damaged buildings. Right after received the report, HCCFB gathered 15 special search and rescue team members, 4 rescue vehicles and dispatched at 2:30 in the morning for rescue mission.
 
Types of dispatched vehicles included search and rescue trucks and rescue appliances trucks. These trucks are equipped with various search and rescue devices such as remote controlled lighting, hydraulic jack, concrete breaker, life detector, and multiple types of cutting devices. Based on the reports from Hualien, various buildings collapsed, many trapped residents were needed to be rescued, and the locals were in a desperate need of rescuing personnel. The director of HCCFB Li Shigong authorized emergency rescue mission. The rescue team dispatched at 2:30 am, Feb. 7 to Songshan Airport then took the air way to Hualien.
 
Director Li stated that he notified Hsinchu City Mayor Lin Chih-chien about Hualien's situation upon receiving the report, and Mayor Lin instructed the full support to Hualien based on the spirit of mutual aid between cities and counties. Mayor Lin and Director Li encouraged the firefighters to do their best on rescuing lives and reminded them to watch out for their own safeties.
