Hsinchu City Government established 7 recycling stations "Windcycle stations (pronounced as Fongshou station)" in 2016 and expanded last year (2017) to a total of 27 stations and accepted more varieties of recycles. The promotion of "Gifts for Recycling" also attracted 510 self-employed people to work toward sustainable environment. The 27 stations had processed 247 metric tons of recycling and reduced carbon emission that equals to 1 year of carbon absorption of Shibajianshan.
Hsinchu City Mayor Lin Chih-chien stated that the 7 Windcycle stations established in 2016 had recycled 47 metric tons of recycling during the same year. Hsinchu City Government later successfully obtained $4 million dollar funds from the Central Government and expanded Windcycle stations to 27 stations. Windcycle stations have bright color and clean designs that overturned the messy and dirty impression that recycling stations used to have.
Mayor Lin stated his thankfulness to all citizens who have contributed in environmental protection and achieved this amazing result (247 metric tons of annual recycle).
The director of Hsinchu City Environmental Protection Bureau (HCEPB) Jiang Shengren stated that environmental protection is a global consensus. HCEPB had established environmental friendly policies such as food forests, community granaries, Windcycle stations, etc. HCEPB encouraged the public to start protecting environment from daily life.
Director Jiang stated that there will be 5 more Windcycle stations available on June this year. He encouraged the public to recycle, gather points, and exchange gifts together.
