Encourage and Inspire Universiade Athletes, Mayor: Spend more in Nurturing Talents

Five Hsinchu athletes represented Taiwan to participate in the 2017 Universiade, obtaining 1 Gold, 3 Silver, and 1 Bronze metals. Five athletes were from Hsinchu City including TanYa-ting (archery-Silver), Chen Yi-hsuan (archery- Bronze), Lee Hsuan-yen (swimming), Cai Yi-lin (swimming), and Liang Hsuan Ming (roller skating- Gold). Mayor Lin Chih-chien gave affirmation to athletes’ hard work and efforts, and the City Government would continue to put in more resources in nurturing athletes.
 
Mayor Lin pointed out, since he was selected as Mayor, the City Government had spent $120 million in improving Physical Education Facilities and setting Athletes Rewards; moreover, the City Government had successfully obtained a $5.4 million subsidy from the Central Government to further improve facilities and setting rewards for coaches, encouraging them to train more talented athletes.
 
The Department of Education stated, in order to reward athletes' efforts, all Universiade representatives will receive $ 20 thousand; moreover, athletes will also receive $ 200 thousand, $ 150 thousand, and $ 100 thousand for each Gold, Silver, and Bronze metal respectively.
