The China Youth Corps held the 2024 Youth Day and Outstanding Youth Commendation event, where Mayor Kao Hung-An presented awards to 9 outstanding youths in society and 27 outstanding youths from Hsinchu City’s junior and senior high schools and colleges, totaling 36 awardees. Mayor Kao encouraged the awardees to leverage their knowledge in various fields, explore their potential, contribute to the country and society, make the country better and society more progressive, and inject more youth vitality into Hsinchu City.
Mayor Kao stated that the innovative vitality of young people is the driving force for change in the city. The city government team attaches great importance to youth policies. Since last year, Hsinchu City has completed the restructuring of the Youth Affairs Committee, increased the number and proportion of youth representatives, and expanded the age range of youth representatives to 16 to 40 years old. It has also pioneered the “Youth Civic Participation and Citizenship Program” to increase youth participation in city policies and public affairs, allowing views from different generations to be incorporated into municipal initiatives and the city’s vision.
Mayor Kao said that this year, the city government has launched 15 youth highlight policies and activities under the three main themes of “Youth-friendly,” “Creative Youth,” and “International Youth,” covering various aspects to meet the needs of young people and provide them with more comprehensive services. The city government has also added a “Youth Affairs Zone” (https://reurl.cc/77g1yN) to its official website, where information and resources for young people can be accessed. Additionally, a youth song solicitation activity has been launched to select a theme song exclusively for young people in Hsinchu City. There is also a Youth Construction Fence Aesthetics Design Competition, where winning entries will have the opportunity to become templates for construction site fences in Hsinchu City. Young people are welcome to participate in these activities.
The Department of Labor Affairs explained that this year’s outstanding youth representatives have made outstanding contributions and performances in various fields. Mr. Chen Chun-Hung, an outstanding youth in society, has served in the Zhuguang Fire Station of the First Battalion of the Fire Bureau for 10 years, diligently completing various disaster relief and rescue missions, and serving as a role model for young people.
