In order to enhance Hsinchu City's fire-fighting capability, 35 new recruits joined Hsinchu City Fire Bureau (HCFB) yesterday (10) and the number of personnel in HCFB reached the highest among recent years. Hsinchu City Mayor Lin-chien valued firefighters' working conditions; he planned to improve HCFB's fire-fighting capability through expanding their manpower and upgrading their equipment.

Mayor Lin stated that fire-fighting is a very difficult job that firefighters are risking their own lives to save the others. He appreciated their sacrifice and devotion that kept Hsinchu City a livable city. Mayor Lin had been expanding the fire-fighting force. Manning quotas of HCFB had increased from 262 to 306; the actual size of the crew had increased by 47 and reached 276 personnel on January, 2018.

Mayor Lin stated that he had invested over $85 million dollars to expand and upgrade fire trucks and equipment, and also to enhance the earthquake-resistance of the HCFB building to ensure the safety of the firefighters. The earthquake-resistance enhancement construction is aimed to be finished in 2019.

Mayor Lin said, in order to improve the home safety of Hsinchu City residents, HCFB has been promoting the fire alarm system plan. HCFB will subsidize every household a free fire alarm; the public can go to HCFB branches to receive the free fire alarm and install it at home. The plan is looking to have all household installed at least 1 fire alarm in 2020 and keeps the record of "0 death in fire disasters" since 2015.

The Director of HCFB Li Shigong thanked Mayor Lin for his support to the Fire Bureau. Director Li stated that the arrival of the new recruits was just a beginning. The new recruits will soon be facing the 1-month long orientation training in Hsinchu City Fire Training Facility. The training will be finished on Feb. 5, and the recruits will be assigned to field service units based on their grades.
