Hsinchu City YouBikes were activated since May, 2016 and received great feedbacks from the public. Hsinchu City Government had already set up 5 YouBike stations including 125 YouBikes around National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) and National Chiao Tung University (NCTU). Yesterday, 2 more stations were activated with 50 extra YouBikes and made NTHU and NCTU to become the campuses that have the highest density of YouBike stations.
Right now, Hsinchu City has 47 YouBike stations, 1175 YouBikes, and the total of 1.76 million person-times usages since the system was activated 2 years ago. Hsinchu City Government recently collaborated with Hsinchu Science Park and established 8 YouBike stations in the Science Park to ease the traffic problem; NTHU and NCTU also have high demand on YouBikes usage due to high student population. 2 stations were officially activated yesterday (10) after Hsinchu City Government and YouBike Company evaluated the situation.
Hsinchu City Mayor Lin Chih-chien stated that the City Government established 5 YouBike stations in NTHU and NCTU last years with the average usage of 1,000 person-times per day. However, the demand of YouBikes kept increasing even after the 5 stations were put into use; so 2 more stations were added yesterday.
Scooters and motorcycles are forbid inside the campuses, biking becomes the most convenient transportation method for traveling between classes. YouBike service is available 24 hours and maintained by the manufacture, which keeps the environment in a tidied manner and allows the students to travel conveniently not only in the campuses but also in downtown area or to bike home during holidays. Moreover, YouBikes have fixed stations which keep the bike parking in order.
A Student in NCTU stated that now it only takes him and his friends 5 minutes to bike to NTHU Night Market; additionally, he had to take buses to downtown area or to go home during holidays. Now, he can bike to downtown area or train station directly using YouBikes, which saves him a lot of times.
