Wind City Cup Basketball Championship Season 10, the largest annual basketball event in Hsinchu City, started at Hsinchu Municipal Stadium on October 28. The championship will last 9 days, and the opening ceremony was held on October 31. The event has the highest attendance compared to past 10 years; there are 1836 basketball players divided into 108 teams in the event. Mayor Lin points out, Hsinchu City Government invested $34.74 million subsidy on Hsinchu Municipal Stadium due to the Summer Universiade; imported basketball facilities that satisfied International Basketball Federation (FIBA) standard. The high quality stadium attracted 4,000 audiences to cheer for Chinese Taipei teams during the Summer Universiade.
Shen Shijun, the executive secretary of Hsinchu City Basketball Committee, states that Wind City Cup Basketball Championship is an annual national competition in Hsinchu City, and the numbers of registered team grow gradually every year. Most of the basketball players in the event have only seen Hsinchu Municipal Stadium from TV during the Summer Universiade. Therefore, a lot of them feel that they are lucky to have a chance to stand on the international standard court due to the competition this time.
Hsinchu City Department of Education states, the Wind City Cup Basketball Championship was initiated on 2007, and this is the tenth year holding the event. The event will last 9 days at Hsinchu Municipal Stadium (October 28 to November 5), the City Government welcomes the public to come and cheer for the basketball players.
