City Government Builds Barrier-free Workplace, Disabled Person Becomes English Helper in Department of Labor Affairs

23 year old person with disability, Xiao Zhiyou is now working for Hsinchu City Government Department of Labor Affairs with his great perseverance and assistance from Hsinchu city Government. In order to help people with disabilities breaking employment barriers, Hsinchu City Government launched "Love: Barrier-free Employment Project", establishing professional team to guide enterprise units in creating a barrier-free employment and working environment for the people with disabilities; Mayor Lin Chih-chien hopes more enterprises and units can join, creating a barrier-free employment City.

Xiao suffered from Spina Bifida, also known as neural tube defects, since birth; he graduated with applied foreign languages major, and his career dream is to become a translator; on the other hand, his future dream is to buy a house, but it was difficult because of disability.

"Even with disability, I still good at many things, I always want to find a job that can display my talents!" After graduation, Xiao participated in many large-scale career fairs, but most of them didn’t turn out well. However, with great perseverance, he proactively looked for any interview opportunities, and he finally got into Hsinchu City Government.  

Xiao is currently an indispensable employee Department of Labor Affairs employee, every time his co-workers have English problems, they go to him for helps. Xiao is grateful working in in the Department of Labor affairs, in the future, he will challenge civil service examination.
