In order to promote green consumption, Hsinchu City Environmental Protection Bureau cooperated with the local green shops to launch the event "Free Goodies for Green Consumption" from September 21 to October 20. Mayor Lin Chih-chien stated in 2016, privately held companies' and schools' green consumption had reached $500 million, and $80 million (94%), respectively. Mayor Lin encourages the public to participate in the event and contribute to environmental protection through green consumption.

The Director-general of Environmental Protection Bureau Jiang Shengren stated that, the first round of "Free Goodies" was held along with Homebox's anniversary event at Homebox (Section 2, Jingguo Rd.) from September 21 to 25. The consumers will get a free $100 green dishwashing detergent (200 bottles only) for a $500 over purchase.

The Director-general pointed out, there are many types of commodities such as detergents, cleaning supplies, latex and cement paints, toilets, faucets, and air conditioners, all with relative ep (environmental protection) marks; he encourages the public in need to take advantage of this economically and environmentally friendly event.

The Environmental Protection Bureau stated, green products have characteristics of recyclable, low resource consumption and pollution. For instance, a detergent has to reach over 90% biodegradability to pass the ep certification.

According to the Environmental Protection Bureau, there are 310 stores that sell green products, including Hi-Life, Family Mart, hyper-marts, e-life malls, and motorcycle stores.
