Mayor Kao Hung-An of Hsinchu City visited Xi-Men Primary School on March 5 to inspect the student commuting path project. Mayor Kao stated that the city government values people-oriented transportation and strives to create pedestrian-friendly urban spaces. To provide a more comfortable commuting environment for students and the public, the project involves improving existing pedestrian walkway surfaces, including sections of Beida Road, Beixin Street, and Section 1, Yanping Road, totaling approximately 600 meters of pedestrian walkways. The project also involves relocating existing public facilities and installing new line-type pedestrian walkways. It is expected to be completed by June this year, achieving the goal of smooth traffic flow and pedestrian-friendly urban planning.

Mayor Kao explained that Xi-Men Primary School has a history of over 70 years. Before the improvement project, the sidewalks around the campus were damaged due to tree root uplift, and public facilities on the sidewalks occupied space, affecting pedestrian pathways. As Xi-Men Primary School is in the city center, community residents often have conflicts with vehicles for road space sharing, leading to potential dangers. This project will improve pedestrian walkway surfaces, install new pedestrian fences, adjust traffic signal facilities, lay AC pavement on roads, set up tree pit green belts and plantings, and improve accessibility ramps. In the future, the construction of student commuting paths shared by schools and communities will continue, creating a green walkway living circle.

Chen Mu-Jin, Director of the Education Department, explained that the improvement project of the student commuting paths around Xi-Men Primary School was made possible thanks to the support of Xi-Men Primary School’s Principal, Hsu Ching-Kung, teachers, students, and the council members. The city government team will continue to strive to build safe, comfortable, and secure student commuting paths shared by schools and communities, allowing teachers and students to walk in a safe and comfortable commuting environment and giving parents peace of mind.
