The renovation of Hsinchu City’s Dongguang Park has been completed! Mayor Kao Hung-An stated that the original Dongguang Park, which has been used for over 20 years, had old facilities, complex interfaces, and messy plant growth. The city government has redesigned and reconstructed it, adjusting the existing wall form closer to the natural water’s edge. In addition, a 700-meter barrier-free pedestrian path has been planned to connect the park. The current public facilities and lines along the road have also been consolidated and undergrounded, increasing the greenbelt buffer zone and pedestrian space and creating a walking trail system in nature.

Mayor Kao pointed out that the city is actively promoting “Hsinchu Aesthetics” and “Sustainable Livability.” The comprehensive planning and upgrading of Dongguang Park include reorganizing the original plants, creating resting spaces under old trees, and undergrounding the messy overhead cables to clean up the skyline, providing high-quality leisure areas for the community. As part of the park’s reconstruction, a 1.5-meter-high wall near the main canal was removed, and a transparent safety railing was installed, allowing people to get closer to the water’s edge, reducing visual barriers. A flat, safe, circular, barrier-free pedestrian path connects the park, providing citizens with a green space for leisure and safe passage.

Yen Yi-Chi, Director of the City Marketing Department, explained that Dongguang Park is located beside Dongguang Road, with the Dongshi Canal running through it. The park had old facilities, resulting in fragmented regional divisions and messy plant growth. Early residential areas were closely attached to the park, with private belongings and vehicles occupying the space, making the park’s interior appear chaotic. Although the site has the advantage of a waterfront landscape, the current high walls of the canal interrupt the view of the water. In addition, there are numerous utility poles, overhead wires, and utility boxes along the pedestrian walkway that severely impact the use and landscape of the park. After much effort and coordination by the city government team to overcome various obstacles, the new Dongguang Park is finally completed, bringing a new look to Hsinchu City as everyone hoped.
