To enhance public safety at the Hsinchu Science Park, the Hsinchu City Fire Bureau has actively promoted the recruitment of corporate volunteer firefighters. On the 23rd, the Hsinchu City Corporate Volunteer Firefighters were established under the leadership of Mayor Kao Hung-An, with participation from nearly 200 volunteer firefighters representing 20 technology companies. Mayor Kao praised the corporate volunteer firefighters’ training and disaster rescue drills and expressed hope for collectively improving the safety of the technology industry in the park.

Mayor Kao stated that the Hsinchu Science Park is Taiwan’s first science and industrial park, bringing together many essential technology industries. It is an important indicator of Taiwan’s technological development and the lifeline of Taiwan’s economy. Due to the different characteristics of each factory area in the park, the Fire Bureau has actively promoted the establishment of corporate volunteer firefighters specifically for the science park to make disaster relief more immediate and practical, allowing corporate volunteer firefighters to contribute to the safety of their companies and colleagues. With the efforts of the city government, park associations, and various companies, Hsinchu City has become the first in the country to promote and integrate technology companies in the science park and encourage employees to join the corporate volunteer firefighters, effectively enhancing the public safety of the technology industry in the park.

Director of the Fire Bureau, Lee Shi-Kung, stated that corporate volunteer firefighters are primarily promoted among companies to organize self-defense fire brigades or emergency response teams, which can help strengthen the companies’ autonomous disaster prevention capabilities and initial disaster response. After receiving professional training, corporate volunteer firefighters can protect their companies and the lives and property of their colleagues. The Fire Bureau provides essential training for corporate volunteer firefighters to enhance the self-rescue capabilities of various technology companies. It offers each firefighter four hours of free professional training at the Hsinchu City Fire Education Training Base. Additionally, to ensure the safety of corporate volunteer firefighters during disaster relief efforts, each volunteer firefighter is covered by accident insurance, providing added security for their efforts in disaster response.
