The Hsinchu City Refuse Incineration Plant (Waste-to-Energy Plant), which has been in operation for over 23 years, is the city’s only large-scale waste treatment facility and plays an important role in assisting with waste dispatch and disposal in the Taoyuan-Hsinchu-Miaoli area. The Hsinchu City government stated that due to the long-term operation of the incineration plant, most of its equipment is old, leading to frequent equipment failures and the need for emergency repairs. Therefore, the city government began upgrading and refurbishing the incineration plant last year, completing the main construction by the end of January this year and igniting the furnace. The goal is to maintain equipment stability through replacement and upgrade and to improve the overall efficiency of waste treatment in the plant.

Mayor Kao Hung-An emphasized that the city government team values environmental protection issues and is committed to providing residents with a “livable, sustainable, and happy-friendly” urban environment. The construction of the incineration plant upgrade and refurbishment project started in November last year, and the Hsinchu City Bureau of Environmental Protection has been effectively monitoring and supervising the project's progress. The main construction was officially completed, and the furnace ignited in January. In addition to increasing waste treatment capacity and effectively maintaining the city’s environmental quality, the plant can convert resources into electricity, implementing energy conservation, carbon reduction, and resource recycling to create a livable and sustainable city.

Director Jiang Sheng-Jen of the Bureau of Environmental Protection stated that most of the equipment at the Hsinchu City incineration plant has been upgraded and optimized by the end of January this year. It resumed operation before the Chinese New Year and is undergoing follow-up improvement. With a target daily processing capacity of 680 tons, the plant is helping Hsinchu City smoothly navigate the 2024 National Clean Week, properly handling the significantly increased amount of waste from household cleaning before the Lunar New Year and allowing residents to enjoy a clean environment and a healthy and happy New Year.
