To provide citizens with a higher quality urban environment, the Hsinchu City government successfully secured funding from the Water Resources Agency, MOEA, for the “National Water Environment Improvement Project.” This initiative led to the commencement of the “first phase improvement project of Keya River Grand Park,” officially completed and opened on Feb 5. Mayor Kao Hung-An stated that the city government listened to public opinion, addressed existing issues, and accelerated the progress of improvement projects. The initial phase has already seen the completion of environmental enhancements at Xiya Park and Taixi Parent-child Park. In the future, efforts will be expedited to connect the five parks along the Keya River, creating a new urban blue-green corridor and providing citizens with a high-quality recreational environment.

Mayor Kao emphasized that the five parks along the Keya River, namely Xiya, Dingpu, Tiangongtan, Taixi, and Taixi Parent-child Park, are the essence of the intersection between nature and culture in the metropolitan area of Hsinchu City. To provide citizens with a high-quality and comprehensive recreational environment, the city government will continue to improve the pathways and landscape environments of the five parks along the river, creating a livable, sustainable, distinctive, and comfortable recreational environment.

Mayor Kao further explained that in addition to improving pavement and facility environments, the transformation project for Keya River Grand Park in Hsinchu City also includes ecological checks, preservation of existing trees in most of the sites, improvement of habitats for precious old trees, and division of sensitive areas to minimize disturbance during construction. Additionally, efforts have been made to increase permeable areas and plant native Taiwanese species and plants that attract butterflies and birds. This approach integrates local ecology with aesthetics and safety, meeting the leisure needs of community residents.

The City Marketing Department pointed out that both parks have established barrier-free pathways based on universal design principles. In addition to landscape improvements such as tree grooming and trimming and improvements to drainage and lighting facilities, new pedestrian pathways have been established, and existing ones have been improved. This marks the first step in integrating and enhancing parks along the Keya River, with subsequent efforts focusing on improving Tiangongtan Park and gradually realizing the vision of Keya River Grand Park.
