The Hsinchu City government actively promotes the revitalization of the old town shopping area. Last year, it launched the “Old Town Shopping Area Revitalization and Rejuvenation,” adhering to three major strategies: “Digital Tool Integration,” “Optimizing Store Environments,” and “Developing Innovative Services and Products.” These strategies aim to enhance the competitiveness of businesses in the area. Mayor Kao Hung-An visited and provided guidance to one of the assisted stores, “Hsin Hsing Pesticide and Seed Store,” to listen to business owners’ voices and understand the project’s effectiveness. This initiative is leading the city’s Old Town shopping area into a new era of industrial transformation.
Mayor Kao stated that the city government is committed to the revitalization of the Old Town area through three major directions: “Revitalization of Old Urban Areas,” “Activation and Regeneration of Cultural Assets,” and the “Urban Renewal Plan.” Last year, the city government collaborated with professional consultant teams to assist three businesses in environmental store transformations. “Hsin Hsing Pesticide and Seed Store,” which was visited during this occasion, was one of them. Established in 1920, the store, after the intervention of the consulting team, now presents an entirely rejuvenated appearance, injecting fresh vitality into the Old Town shopping area.
Director Hsu Chih-Pao of the Department of Economic Development mentioned that Zhongyang Road used to be a settlement in the Old Town area where pesticides and seeds were sold, with more than 20 shops at its peak. Today, only three to four of them remain. Focusing on the historically significant century-old store, “Hsin Hsing Pesticide and Seed Store,” the city government, through the project “Old Town Shopping Area Revitalization and Rejuvenation” last year, invited a professional consultant team to provide guidance. After reviewing the store’s background story, designers were engaged to re-plan the store layout and product displays. The introduction of wooden elements, wall decorations, and redesigned signage created a spatial environment with more depth and a rich atmosphere, successfully turning the store into a new highlight of the Old Town shopping area.
