Hsinchu Zoo, in an effort to promote animal life education and animal welfare, has undertaken a professional assessment. Through a managed separation approach beneficial to enhancing the welfare of existing tigers in Taiwan’s zoo system, the zoo has officially borrowed a Bengal tiger from the zoo of Leofoo Village, welcoming it into the family of Hsinchu Zoo.

The city government mentioned that Hsinchu Zoo has been caring for tigers since around 1981. Tigers familiar to the public, named “Liu Fu” and “Lai Fu,” arrived at Hsinchu Zoo in 2005, each living for 18 years (equivalent to the human age of 88) and 17 years, respectively. In the past two years, they left everyone due to natural aging, beyond the average age of 15 for tigers in captivity. The zoo has accumulated rich experience in tiger care. The exhibition of the Bengal tiger from Leofoo Village Theme Park Zoo not only promotes animal life education but also allows the public to understand the professionalism of animal conservationists.

Yang Chu-Yuan, the director of Hsinchu Zoo, mentioned that as the issues of animal conservation and welfare gain increasing attention, the zoo is continually adapting, reviewing, and adjusting its actions related to animal care. From improving habitat environments and strengthening dietary and medical care to enriching behavioral training, the zoo is committed to meeting the expectations of all walks of life and constantly striving to improve.

Hsinchu Zoo stated that recent feedback from visitors and the public has underscored tigers’ vital role in life education. The zoo understands the diverse expectations of the public for a variety of species in the zoo, including the formal proposal from the Hsinchu City Council requesting an increase in animal species. This initiative aims to allow people to learn and understand more about different animal species.
