Chinese New Year is coming; Hsinchu City Mayor Lin Chih-chien visited major traditional markets and gave out red envelopes to the stands and the public as a happy New Year greeting. The public lined up to take photos with Mayor Lin and some of the enthusiastic stands even gave Mayor Lin free vegetables. Hsinchu City Government stated that they originally prepared 40,000 red envelopes; however, the red envelopes were too popular that the city government had to print 5,500 additional ones at short notice.
 
Mayor Lin visited Xinyuan Market yesterday (13) accompanied with Councilman Zeng Zhicheng, Director of Hsinchu City Government Department of Economic Development Wu Jiatian, and Leader of the Xinyuan Market Council Cheng Qingfeng. The public and the stands welcomed them with enthusiasm and a citizen mentioned that "Mayor Lin made Hsinchu City different."
 
Mayor Lin stated that the original print of "Yi Ding Xing Fu" printed on the dollar red envelope was written in clerical script by the well-known calligrapher Wang Yizhen. The dollar red envelopes were giving out to the public around the Chinese New Year period and received great feedbacks.
 
Mayor Lin stated that Xinyuan Market supplied Chinese New Year groceries to people lived in Xinyuan area. The stands of Xinyuan Market were busy with replenishment in recent days. Mayor Lin appreciated the stands for their hard works and suppling fresh ingredients for the public to prepare for the Chinese New Year. He wished everyone a happy 2018.

Director Wu stated that traditional markets are very important to Hsinchu citizens. Hsinchu City Government will continue to organize and manage the traditional markets in order to offer the public higher quality and comprehensive market environment.
