Grand Debut of the 16th Wind City Art Exhibition; 95 Artists Compose a City Art Museum

The 16th Wind City Art Exhibition (WCAE) combines with "Hsinchu Good New Year" creative light shows and installation arts, and creating a city-wide art feast during the Chinese New Year period. Taking "city art museum" as the theme, WCAE contains 7 categories of arts such as Chinese ink and wash painting, nihonga, and calligraphy. Hsinchu City Mayor Lin Chih-chien stated that Hsinchu City Government has been conducting WCAE for 16 consecutive years, which makes it a Hsinchu City special feature. This year, WCAE gathered 95 artists and integrated "In Pair – Wishing House" installation art, City Moat artistic lights, and East Gate (Dongmen Cheng) "Guard and Prosperous" theme light to make Hsinchu City a gigantic museum during the Chinese New Year period.
 
Hsinchu City Cultural Affairs Bureau (HCCCAB) stated that the oldest artist among the 95 artists participated in WCAE is 97 years old, and the youngest is only 18 years old. The theme "City Art Museum" is presented using 7 mediums of art including watercolor, oil painting, Chinese ink and wash painting, nihonga, filming, calligraphy, crafts, and pottery. The exhibition presents how the artists perceive the changes and the beauty of the city.
 
The 97 year-old senior artist Lu Yuqing has participated in every WCAE since the first WCAE. He stated that WCAE is a meaningful art exhibition that representing the inheritance of city arts. He mentioned that he will continue to participate in future WCAEs if his health condition allows him to.
 
The youngest artist in 2018 WCAE Lin Pinjie is only 18 years old. She won 2017 Chu Qian Award in watercolor category. She stated that she feels flattered to join and demonstrate her works with other senior artists in this art feast. She hoped to preserve the lives and the memories in this city through her creation.
 
HCCCAB stated that the 16th WCAE holds in Mayyuan, Chuxuan, Liuli and Meide Gallery in HCCCAB Auditorium. The exhibition ends on Feb. 25. For more information, please call 03-5332841, or 1999 the public service line.
