Hsinchu City Government invited the artist Wu Jianxing to set up the installation art "In Pair - Wishing House" in front of Hsinchu City Hall to welcome the Chinese New Year. Wishing House was set up by traditional furniture and digital lights which the visitor would feel like they have gone back in time. The public could write down New Year wishes on the wishing cards and hang the cards in the house. The opening ceremony was held on Feb. 10; Hsinchu City Mayor Lin Chih-chien encouraged the public to use the wishing cards to pray for Hualien and wished everyone a happy 2018.
Mayor Lin stated that Wishing House is 12-meter long, 3-meter wide, and 3-meter high. He pointed out that Wishing House looked simple, but he could feel the warmth of home when he walked into the house.
Mayor Lin appreciated the artists and the curators for establishing Wishing House and introducing Wishing House to visitors. He stated that he suggested the Wishing House guides to stay inside the City Hall due to cold weather; however, the guides insisted to stay at the entrance of Wishing House to welcome every visitor.
Director of Hsinchu City Government Department of General Affairs Susana Pai stated that Wishing House was set up in a traditional way that used old and traditional items to create a modern art work. The lighting of the house depended on the sunlight. Wishing House would be opened to the public from Feb. 10 to Mar. 8 except the Chinese New Year's Eve (Feb. 15). The opening hour of Wishing House is 10:00 to 17:00; the public is welcomed to visit and experience the Chinese tradition at Hsinchu City Hall.
