Street dance will be added to "2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games." 150 great dancers from 20 different countries including Taiwan, Japan, and Korea will compete for the ticket to Youth Olympic Games in the qualifying match on Dec. 2. Hsinchu City Mayor Lin Chih-chien went to the street dance classroom to encourage the dancers to pursue their dreams.
Mayor Lin states that street dance is a popular new sport and it will become an official Youth Olympic sport in the summer of 2018. There will be two dancers from Hsinchu City attending to the qualifying match, Zhang Chenkai and Yang Zhiquan. Zhang Chenkai is from Hsinchu City Kuang-Fu High School and he has qualified for the Asia qualifying match. On the other hand, Yang Zhiquan is a training dancer for 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. In order to encourage the youths to pursue and achieve their dreams, Mayor Lin provided stages for them to demonstrate their skills through various art and literature exhibitions. Mayor Lin points out that apart from street dance, Hsinchu City Government also actively improves the sport facilities and establishes a comprehensive sport training system.
The national team dancer Zhang Chenkai has been practicing dancing for 5 hours every day since he joined Kuang-Fu High School breakdancing club. He also scheduled physical and weight training, and utilized his break time to think of new moves. He started to practice more with his friend from June; he had been successfully selected into the national team on August this year.
Yang Zhiquan is also from Kuang-Fu High School breakdancing club, and he acquired 5 champions and 2 second places on street dance competitions this year. He had collaborated with Zhang Chenkai to attend various street dance competitions in the past. Gu Qingyu, the Taiwanese street dance coach of Youth Olympic Games, points out that Zhang Chenkai has a great sense of rhythm, and there is power in Yang Zhiquan's moves.
Hsinchu City Government Department of Education points out that the street dance competition in"2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games" will be competing breakdance. The competition will target the dancers' techniques, originalities, and musicality. There will be 150 dancers from various countries to attend the "Asia/Oceania Qualifying Match" on Dec. 2. At most 3 males and 2 females can be qualified to the "Tokyo Qualifying Match" in the next stage. The dancers that come out from the "Tokyo Qualifying Match" will officially obtain a ticket for "2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games."
