MayHsinchu City Government collaborates with Ministry of Economic Affairs Industrial Development Bureau and Industrial Technology Research Institute to held "2017 Hsinchu Hackthon" competition at Hsinchu Municipal Stadium on Nov. 25 and Nov. 26. The City Government encourages youths to utilize the public government information to analysis and solve daily life problems in order to improve living quality. Hsinchu City Mayor Lin Chih-chien invites youths from all over the country to compete for one million dollar prize though their imagination and creativity.
Mayor Lin states, Hsinchu City Government initiated the "Hackthon" competition with the theme of innovative design to the City Government's official website on 2015. The participants used the users' point of view with creative ideas to design the website. The competition was a 33 hours web-design-marathon and attracted over 60 internet specialists to redesign the City Government's official website.
Zhang Yingxiang, the president of NCTU Makereal Labs who earned the super-hacker reward and technology-popularity reward in "NTU Hackthon," says that the word "Hackthon" is the combination of hack and marathon that encourages the participants to create, consider, and write computer programs to solve real-life problems.
Lin Biyu, the chief of Ministry of Economic Affairs Industrial Development Bureau Knowledge Services Division, encourages the public to take advantage of the public government information on the internet. In addition, she hopes the participants of "Hsinchu Hackthon" will utilize the information and consider from the public's point of view to improve living quality.
Hsinchu City Government Department of Labor Affairs states, the competition will be divided into Maker's Group and Hacker's Group and the application deadline for "Hsinchu Hackthon" is Nov. 21.
